Update on Haiti Adoptions |
|
Help now: If you wish to help the children of Haiti immediately, please know that monetary donations will help stabilize the existing orphanages and adoption agencies in Port au Prince and the surrounding area. Efforts are being made to help these children, but the priority now is to save their lives.
Be sure you are donating to a responsible organization. Suggested organizations:
Longer term: Until Haiti's court infrastructure is functioning, new adoptions will be very difficult, if not impossible. Longer term plans will be necessary for sustaining the children of Haiti. You may start now by filling out paper work to prepare for International Adoption. The first step is to reserve a spot at our Information Meeting on Monday, Feb. 22. Call Karen Gillooly to register at 216-320-8589.
Progress on pending adoptions: The U.S. Office of Homeland Security is fast-tracking already approved adoptions of Haitian orphans by Americans and adoptions of children matched to potential American adoptive parents.
We will be updating this information as things change in Haiti. For more information on Haiti visit the website of our international partnering organization, Holt International at www.holtinternational.org.
