The objective of Bellefaire's Early Start program is to identify at-risk children under the age of four and their parents. At-risk categories include teen mothers, single parents, low-income parents, and parents who have not finished high school.
Early Start workers visit these children and parents weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly. They teach developmental milestones, nutrition, appropriate play techniques, and other healthy parenting skills. The child is linked to other necessary services, such as health care providers, nutritionists, and social services.
An additional half-time worker has been added for the coming year. Early Start was awarded a six-month contract that increases the amount of funding available. This was based on the observed value of Bellefaire's service and our willingness to take more referrals.
