When a child is entering our Center, a transition plan is designed with your child in mind. We will write that plan and have your signed permission. When a child begins our program we ask that the parent help with the transition. The schedule is as follows:
Day One - Parent and child arrive at 9:30 A.M. and remain until 11:30 A.M. If your child needs you to stay in the room, you are welcome to do so. The security that this gives the child will ultimately allow the child to “let” you leave. When your child is ready for you to leave the room, the teacher will walk with the child to show them where you are and then walk him/her back to the room.
Day Two - Parent and child arrive at 9:30 A.M. and remain until after lunch. Day Three - Parent and child arrive at 9:30 A.M. and remain through the nap time. Please bring anything that will be soft and cuddly, perhaps a picture of you or something that reminds the child of home. Many children do not sleep on the first day but you can tuck your child in, say “I’ll be here when you wake up” and leave the room. The teacher will know she should call you if needed. At the end of rest time, you and your child will go home.
The following day and times will be decided with you and your child’s teacher. We hope to make your child’s transition as positive as possible.
Transitional objects are welcome. “e.g.” blanket, soft toys. When a child is being moved to a different room and he or she is again to be transitioned, we will notify you and have your signed assent that you are in agreement with the plan. |
