| We
serve over 150 children annually. We typically
have about 15 - 20 males on our
wait list and 3-5 females. Volunteers must
be a minimum of 21 years of age and a there
is a one-year commitment required. Nonetheless,
an active match lasts on average 3 ½ years.
Many of our clients have unresolved issues
resulting from the loss of a parent; others
may have withdrawn into themselves, exhibiting
depression or reluctance to emotionally invest
in relationships. Immigrant children faced
with the challenges of acculturation often
find themselves feeling isolated and detached
and struggling to succeed in school. Through
the Jewish Big Brother Big Sister Program
adult volunteer mentors provide support,
encouragement, and guidance to help smooth
the way towards maturity, happiness, and
achievement for their “littles.”
