Full time position available for school program designed to respond specifically to the unique learning needs of children with autism. Small ratio class size; supportive team; experience working with children with autism helpful but will train. Bachelor’s degree in field related to Special Education (Psychology, Elementary Education, Child Development, etc.)
The Monarch School Assistant Teacher is supervised by the Director of the Monarch School. Essential Duties include: Assist in the teaching and behavior management of the classroom by developing and implementing lesson plans and curriculum that are in line with IEP goals and objectives; Keep daily, weekly and monthly student behavioral records; Protect children from physical and emotional harm emanating from themselves, others, or the environment; Properly handle emergencies such as injury, runaway and acting out situations; Instruct/train children in socially acceptable alternatives to negative and destructive behavior; Teach and role model pro-social, mediation, and self-management skills; Demonstrate through role modeling the values associated with mainstream society; Plan and organize daily activities to optimize treatment program; Care of children, which includes supervising children when using restroom, care of sick children, assisting children with meals, management of student clothes and assisting during bus/school transition and clean up.
