Family Attention Versus Juvenile Detention
PURPOSE OF PROGRAM: To support families in crisis after an alleged incident of domestic violence.
We provide up to three hours of stabilization counseling and support to the teen and the family. In addition, we provide up to five family sessions. The sessions can occur in the Detention Center at 2209 Central Avenue, in the family's home, and/or at Bellefaire's community-based satellite offices.
WHO: Juveniles up to 17 years old at the time of the complaint
After an arrest for domestic violence (ORC 2919.25)
Serving teens residing in Cuyahoga County
Pre-adjudicated youth at the time of referral.
WHAT: An alleged act of domestic violence that has been reported to the police.WHY: To offer families and teens support, training, and education to make home a safer place.
HOW: After a teen commits an alleged act of domestic violence he/she may be detained in the Detention Center. A Bellefaire therapist assesses the appropriateness and lethality of the teen and family. We attend arraignments in the Detention Center and make recommendations to the jurist. Bellefaire can only accept referrals from the jurist in the Detention Center. After the arraignment, we provide a stabilization session. The family receives up to five in-home family therapy sessions.Bellefaire attends arraignments in the Detention Center Monday through Friday and on Sundays.
SERVICES: A session to stabilize the family and teen. We assess if it is safe for the teen to return home. We have all involved parties sign a safety contract. We review the crisis on-call procedures and complete the Sharing of Information form.
A case manager is assigned after the arraignment.
We provide up to five ongoing family sessions.
We make any needed recommendations for continued services.
