JDN Early Childhood Center is a year-round, full-day program for toddlers, preschoolers and young five year olds that offers educational programming and age-appropriate learning experiences. Play is a core part of our school days, as it is through play that the young child learns. At JDN, we want children to experience learning as fun.
Our curriculum is mastery-based. Children learn that no task is so big and overwhelming that it cannot be broken down into small steps, processed, experimented with, and ultimately mastered. We want each child to feel the self-esteem that comes from having done or learned something new. This mastery approach is woven into all aspects of the JDN day and throughout all of our programming. It applies to the youngest child as he or she learns how to be a part of a group and to tolerate frustration. It also applies to the oldest child as he or she learns to write creatively or experiment with science or math concepts. We want children to be active participants, to trust themselves, their educators, and the educational process. Our ultimate goal is for children to feel joy in learning and pride in their efforts and accomplishments. We hope to give children an approach to learning that they will take with them as they go into the larger world.
