Wellness for a runaway teen |
|
In the face of abuse, escape was her only ambition.
After Kim’s parents were killed in an automobile accident, her aunt and uncle seemed like suitable guardians. But it wasn’t long before her uncle’s “comforting hugs” became unwelcome advances.
Kim escaped—first to the streets, next to alcohol and drugs, and then
she attempted suicide. A call to our runaway program brought Kim to
Bellefaire. Here on our campus, in the security of residential
treatment, she received intensive individual and group therapies,
social interaction, and healthy family connection—the tools she needed
to begin to move beyond her sadness and rage. Today Kim lives with a
nurturing foster care family, who together with Bellefaire, is helping
her convert pain into progress. |
